TIDESMEET PLANTATION BATTLEFIELD

HOLLYWOOD, SC

A portion of the 17-acre site holding the Church Flats Confederate Camp was also the far southwestern flank of the 1779 Battle of Stono Ferry. In this part of the Revolutionary War battlefield, Hessians from the Regiment von Trumbach were in a frantic fight with Patriot militia from North Carolina. At one point in the battle, the Hessian Battalion broke but later rallied and returned to the fight.

The South Carolina Battleground Preservation Trust purchased this site in 2014 using funds from a grant provided by the Charleston County Greenbelt Program. This property is just west of another part of the Stono Ferry Battlefield owned by the Trust.
